Head shaving has long been ritualized—as detachment, devotion, power, or self-definition. Alone, it has the capacity to foster bodily attunement and catharsis. In public, it may turn into feelings of shame and humiliation, altering kinesthetic perception. In this short film at Bois de Vincennes in Paris, meditative kneeling contrasts with the razor’s harsh vibration. The distorted macro iPhone imagery is reflective of somatosensory nerve signaling. Outward peace masks vulnerability, amplified by the razor’s blunt tactile feedback. The iPhone tracks motion, compounding disorientation and unconscious self-referentiality to proprioception.
